About Us
MEMIE is the new name for Medical Equipment management Australasia Pty Ltd. The new name came
about because another Australian company had a similar name and due to the term medical in the name,
a lot of nuisance calls for medical items resulted.
Business names of Medical Equipment Management and Inventive Electronics are still held by MEMIE.
MEM test equipment is designed and manufactured for the BioMedical Field and IE test equipment
for the electrical field.
MEM was started in 1993 and the first range of electrical test equipment was sold in 1995. The
original manually operated devices were later upgraded to automated microprocessor units and the range
expanded to cover appliance testers, dual appliance/medical testers, full medical testers and an RCD tester.
The testers have been so successful that one Australian State Government body has purchased
over a few years, 24 of the sophisticated medical testers and the same tester was purchased firstly
by the New Zealand Defence Force and then a short time later by the Australian Defence Force. The
testers are being used in every state in Australia and both islands
in New Zealand.
All of the test equipment is designed, manufactured and supported in Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia. The test equipment is designed by engineers and technical staff that have hundreds of
hours of testing experience. All design staff have tested equipment and RCDs. They know that apart from
reliability and accuracy, the test equipment must be easy to use and perform tests in the minimum
amount of time.
Sometime the equipment may be damaged through incorrect application or an accidental drop. Here
too MEMIE is proud of its track record to speedily provide repair, technical support or calibrations.
Some companies claim to be market orientated but MEMIE truly responds to customer suggestions
and its products are constantly evolving.
Our greatest sales people are our existing customers.
About Kevin E. O'Brien Director, MEMIE A'ASIA PTY LTD
Kevin started testing and investigating the design of equipment to Australian & New
Zealand standards in 1967. The work in the BioMedical field covered appliances, electrical
equipment and sophisticated medical equipment. Kevin has worked in industry and four major Melbourne
teaching hospitals. During the early 70's, Kevin was also a member of 21 Squadron at RAAF Base
Laverton in the field of aircraft radio and electronics. This was a Citizen Air Force Squadron similar to
the Army CMF.
In the early 1980's, Kevin designed the more critical Type I RCD. His design was one of
the first approved to AS/NZS3190, the type approval standard for RCDs. This design apart from its
direct application to the medical field was also accepted by the then Engineering Design
Establishment, Maribyrnong, Victoria.
In 1984 Kevin designed his first RCD tester. This was built into a test system that accurately
tested Type I RCDs without phase locking giving minimum and maximum trip times and using a four wire
technique would also measure earth resistance to an accuracy of one milliohm. The tester also tested
the performance of Line Isolation Monitors connected to the secondary of mains isolation transformers.
Kevin started MEM in 1993 and in the same year was accepted into IE Aust as an Engineering
Associate with the grade of Fellow.
